Charter School, Conservation District Partner to Save Water (news clip)
August 1, 2007 - In Socorro, New Mexico, Cottonwood Valley Charter School teaches its students about agriculture
with an organic garden. To save water and teach students about water conservation, the school has been working with the
Socorro Water and Conservation District in installing an irrigation drip system for the garden and the school's yards. The
system, which includes 1800 cubic feet of PVC pipe throughout the campus, is almost maintenance free. The District's system
is installed with a rain delay feature and timers to enhance water conservation, which may be required in Socorro as it is in
Albuquerque. The District has a consulting and cost sharing program that it offers to homeowners in the area. (Please allow a
