Latest report on drought conditions in Colorado River Basin states

March 21, 2024 – The latest U.S. Drought Monitor reportOpens in a new tab. released yesterday shows varied drought conditions across the Colorado River Basin. Some areas saw relief from recent precipitation, while dry conditions persist in parts of others.

Highlights for the 7 Colorado River Basin states (data effective March 19):

  • Arizona: Southwestern regions experienced significant drought reduction thanks to precipitation.
  • California: No major changes to drought conditions.
  • Colorado: Snowfall improved drought in the Rockies, but dryness expanded in some Plains areas.
  • Nevada: No major changes to drought conditions.
  • New Mexico: Precipitation led to drought reduction in parts of the state.
  • Utah: No major changes to drought conditions.
  • Wyoming: Some drought improvement in the Rockies due to snowfall.
