- Watering restricted to one day per week Nov. 1–Feb. 28.
- Outdoor water use can’t be recycled; 60% used outdoors.
- Rebates available for replacing grass with desert landscaping.
- Program has saved 189 billion gallons since 1999.
November 8, 2024 — The Southern Nevada Water Authority (SNWA) reminds customers that mandatory watering restrictions limit landscape irrigation to one assigned day per week from November 1 through February 28. Sprinkler watering on Sundays is prohibited. Customers in Las Vegas, Boulder City, Henderson, and North Las Vegas can find their watering days on the SNWA website.
According to SNWA, “Nearly all the water we use indoors in Southern Nevada is recycled. However, water used outside evaporates and cannot be recycled.” The authority notes that approximately 60 percent of Southern Nevada’s water is used outdoors. This outdoor use doesn’t earn return-flow credits and counts against the region’s Colorado River water allowance.
Exceptions to current watering restrictions include hand-watering, supervised sprinkler system testing, and watering new or reseeded landscapes.
Rebates for Desert Landscaping.
Whether you do it yourself or hire a contractor, SNWA offers rebates for residential, business, homeowners association, and multifamily properties that remove grass and replace it with desert landscaping. Applicants can apply online at SNWA’s website.
Significant Water Savings Achieved.
Since its beginning in 1999, the Water Smart Landscapes rebate program has helped the community upgrade 232 million square feet of lawn to water-efficient landscaping, saving 189 billion gallons of water.
